Marathon Central School District has announced commencement plans for the Class of 2026, with graduation scheduled for late June on the high school campus. District leaders said the ceremony is planned for the outdoor athletic field if weather cooperates, a setting that has become a favorite for families and neighbors who like to gather near Main Street to cheer graduates on their big day.
Senior Week traditions will lead into graduation. The district said an Awards Night is slated earlier that week in the high school auditorium to recognize scholarships, academic honors, the arts and athletics. A baccalaureate service is also planned, organized by local clergy and participating families. Details on both events, including times and locations, will be shared by the school and event organizers as the dates approach.
For commencement seating, each graduate will receive an allotment of tickets for family and guests. The district will distribute ticket information directly to seniors and caregivers and post updates on its website and usual messaging channels. Families with accessibility needs are encouraged to contact the high school office in advance so staff can arrange reserved seating and drop‑off accommodations close to the field entrance.
If weather along the Tioughnioga River turns unsettled or field conditions are poor, the district’s rain plan moves the ceremony indoors on campus. In that case, seating will be more limited, and tickets will be required for entry. The district said it expects to provide a live‑stream option so extended family and community members can watch from home. Any weather‑related change will be announced through the district’s communication system and social media, with signage on campus the day of the event.
Graduates will receive instructions about rehearsal, cap and gown pickup, and arrival times from the high school office. Families should plan extra time for parking on campus; school staff and volunteers will help direct traffic. Attendees are asked to avoid parking in fire lanes and to be considerate of neighbors near the school.
As with past years, the district is reminding guests that balloons and noisemakers can obstruct views and interfere with sound, and asks families to hold applause until all names are read so every senior is recognized. Organizers said more specifics will be shared in the coming weeks as June nears.
For questions, families can call the high school office or check the Marathon Central School District website for the latest updates on Senior Week and commencement.
