Marathon High School has something to celebrate this week. Senior Delaney Reilly has earned a spot in the Students Inside Albany program, a competitive opportunity coordinated locally by the League of Women Voters of Cortland County.
Delaney's selection came after a review of student applications and teacher recommendations. Those who chose her noted her genuine passion for civic life and her track record of giving back to her community.
Now in its 26th year, Students Inside Albany gathers high schoolers from across New York State for several days of immersive learning in the state capital. This year's program runs May 17โ20, and Delaney will be one of 60 students taking part. The experience is designed to pull back the curtain on how state government actually functions, not just from a textbook perspective, but through real, hands-on engagement.
During her time in Albany, Delaney will have the chance to walk the halls of the State Capitol, spend time alongside her state legislators, watch the lawmaking process unfold from the chamber floor, and dig into topics like how the state budget comes together and how lobbyists shape policy. It's the kind of experience most people never get, and she'll be living it firsthand.
After returning home, Delaney will have the chance to share what she learned at the League of Women Voters of Cortland County's annual dinner on May 28. We hope the Marathon community will join us in cheering her on.
Congratulations, Delaney!
