Summer Sports Offerings for Marathon Youth and Community

As the summer season gets into full swing, Marathon offers a variety of sports opportunities for both young athletes looking to hone their skills and community members aiming for an active lifestyle. From team sports to individual challenges, there are several ways to get involved right here in our neighborhood.

Local youth interested in fast-pitch softball are encouraged to consider the Marathon Heat U14 summer softball team. This program is currently seeking players, specifically targeting students in 6th through 8th grades. The Marathon Heat aims to help young athletes develop their softball abilities, foster a sense of teamwork, and ensure a summer full of fun on the field. Interested individuals or those seeking more information can reach out to Coach Conklin at 607-423-0558 or julie.conklin@farmcrediteast.com. Inquiries can also be directed to Coach Gillette or Coach Allen.

For those who prefer hitting the pavement, the community is preparing for Marathon's 5K Run for the Scholars. This USATF-certified race is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, and promises a scenic route through Marathon. The course will begin and end on Main Street, featuring some gentle rolling hills that offer a good challenge for participants.

Runners of all ages are welcome to join the 5K event, which will recognize top male and female finishers, as well as age group winners, with awards. While pre-registration for the race closed on June 14th, there is still an opportunity to participate. Individuals can register on race day up to 30 minutes before the start of the event for a fee of $30. Race day registration will take place on the village green, directly in front of the school, and will be open until 8:30 AM. This community event provides a wonderful chance for residents to engage in physical activity and support a local cause.
