At Monday night's regular meeting, the Marathon Village Board voted unanimously to commission a feasibility study for an extended Tioughnioga Riverwalk, picking up an idea that has surfaced in comprehensive plan workshops over the last two years.
The study, expected to cost in the low five figures and funded through a combination of village reserves and a small state planning grant, would map a possible walking route from the village park north to the Route 11 bridge. Trustees emphasized the vote authorizes only a study, not construction, and that any next step would come back for public hearing.
"This is just so we have real numbers to talk about," one trustee said during discussion. "Right now we're guessing."
Residents with thoughts on the route or on river access more generally are encouraged to attend the next regular board meeting or write to the village clerk.
